“Evenin’, Bill. All quiet tonight?” Sanford spit out a large piece of chewin’ tobacco as he reclined in his rockin’ chair on his front porch.
“Yessir,” Bill replied, a lantern swingin’ from one hand, illuminating his way up the road. “Just out lookin’ for Bessie. Ain’t happen to see ‘er ‘ave ya?”
Sanford looked up at the dark sky filled with stars and pondered the question longer than Bill was expecting. “No, Bill. Can’t say that I have.”
Bill went on his way, whistling Bessie’s favorite song. “The dragon lady gon’ make you sleep in the out house over this.”
I saw the light, I saw the light
No more darkness, no more night
Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord, I saw the light
