He wiped sweat from his brow and rested the axe on his shoulder, surveying the trees surrounding them.
“I sure wish you’d pick one already. I’m not gonna have anymore energy to chop it down if we keep this up,” he said between panting for breath. He and his wife had walked the entire length and back of the tree farm in the hopes that one would “speak to her” and be their chosen tree this year.
Finally, she stopped in front of a tree and before she could say anything further he swung the axe, missing the tree completely.
