David acted like it was all a part of the show. Parent’s applauded as the curtain closed for the brief intermission.

“Holy Mother! What is happening?” Miss. Hiller asked, hands on her hips in disbelief. David receded into the furthest corner, wondering the same question. Before he could posit a suggestion, a hand covered his mouth and pulled him back into the darkness.

He struggled to scream but couldn’t. His view of the stage and his classmates disappeared and was replaced by what looked like a utility closet.

“What’s the big idea? I told you to stay hidden,” David said.
