The gravedigger wiped his brow with the back of his gloved hand. Sweat was gone but smudged dirt would never go away. The Spring sun beamed down, shaded slightly by the tall oak trees nearby. The grave he’d been working on was nearly finished. Last minute arrival and he had to work on his day off to get it done.
The gravestone was already placed before he arrived. Caroline Stewart, 1921 - 1928, Forever Young, were the words engraved. The gravedigger never shed a tear for the arrivals. They were all strangers to him. But for the little girl he wept.

Prompt: Gravedigger
A tall, rather limping man opens the cemetery religiously at 8am. People call this man “The Priest”. But he was actually the gravedigger. he was fascinated by one of the plaques in the cemetery, of a man who died in 1945 and had the phrase “Forever here” engraved on it. The gravedigger was a solitary man and everyone missed the fact that he was actually a former priest who was thrown out of the church after trying to murder his wife. The gravedigger priest was, after all, a murderer who lived with some of his victims on a daily basis.
