“Is everyone here, Alfred?” Jim asked, placing a white rose in the lapel of his black dinner jacket.
“Yes, sir.”
“And the main course?”
“Waiting for you at the head of the table, sir.”
“Excellent.” Jim walked into the dining room. Everyone turned to look at him. Ten pairs of eyes followed him to the head of the long table. Family rooted in tradition. He picked up a glass of wine with one hand and placed the other on the cloche in front of him. “A toast,” he began, lifting the cloche to expose a severed head, “to new beginnings.”
