Sitting at my desk, I couldn’t stop my legs from bouncing. Our teacher tried to distract us with lessons, but as none of us knew if we’d be back tomorrow, it seemed pointless to listen.
I look over at the empty desks around the classroom. A reminder of what could happen if we didn’t go straight home after school.
With shorter days and longer nights, anyone under the age of fifteen was in danger of being taken. And no one knows by what.
I close my eyes and try to remember the fastest route home as the dismissal bell rang.
