Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
The grandfather clock in the foyer ticked louder though none of the dinner guests seemed to notice. Only Gertrude seemed bothered by its incessant ticking. She grabbed some champagne and headed for the balcony to get some air and escape the infernal ticking.
Once outside it grew louder. She looked down at even more guests on the front yard chatting. The mens’ wristwatches echoed in her ears. She screamed down at them but they acted undisturbed.
She ran back inside and right through a dinner guest!
No one could see her. And no one knew her.
