When the stranger strolled into town, no one would approach him. They was all expectin’ him. It was foretold that he would be carryin’ instruments to play the Devil’s music and tempt the Lord’s children.
Parent’s crossed to the other side of the street when they saw him comin’. Shop keeper’s closed their doors and hung their “CLOSED” signs in the middle of the afternoon.
Townsfolk peered through their curtains and watched him knock on Freedom’s door. A man of ill repute, but as the neighbors often said to each other, “Better the Devil you know.” Then the door opened.
