“I’m sorry, sir. The restaurant is full,” the maître d' said, his nose stuck in the ledger. The customer slammed his walking stick down once. Loud enough to make the noise in the restaurant disappear.
The maître d' looked up slowly, his eyes immediately fell on the stick and widened. Without even looking to see who was the owner of the stick he grabbed a menu and said, “My sincerest apology, sir. Right this way. The other gentlemen are already here. I didn’t know they were expecting one more.”
He led him to a back room. “They aren’t expecting me.”
