“I’m aimin’ to get outta this town. I hear there’s work to be had in Shreveport—“
The waitress behind the counter dropped a plate.
“Don’t ever say that name. Are you mad or do you just have a death wish?”
“A death wish? What on earth are you going on about?”
His friend leaned in close so as not to be overheard.
“Listen, that…place you mentioned. We all know about it. But it don’t exist.”
He eye’d his friend suspiciously. “Of course it exists. It’s on my map, look.“ He stopped after he looked at his map. “It’s gone!”
