The drought persisted. Even as the liquor barrels flowed. They lined what used to be a riverbed. Now filled with millions of fish bones, once swimming towards freedom; drowned in the still air.
Mothers watch their sons and husbands make fools of themselves. Singing and dancing to the moon. Words of praise to the disappearing clouds…
“SEND DOWN YOUR TEARS YOU FOOLS!”
When morning comes the women gather out in the fields, by the dry riverbed, to clean up their sorrows. Pools of alcohol mixed with sweat and tears of fools.
When they are done, the rain…it does come…
