The Mend is where broken people go to convalesce after a serious accident. Some only stay for hours, while others need longer to heal. All except Walter. He has been at The Mend since it was built nearly seventy-five years ago. Paralyzed from the waist down, he gets around using a wheelchair, visiting patients who’ve come and gone.
The Mend was conceived by his father in the hopes it would heal his son after the skiing accident. His legs remain damaged, but Walter hasn’t aged a day since the accident.
If he left The Mend today, he would die instantly.
