Milky white eyes stared out across the lake. The blanket tucked tight around her legs to keep warm against the mid-morning breeze.
“Hello.” The voice was soft and sweet. She knew straight away it was a child. “My name’s Harriet. I’ve never seen you here before.”
She heard the girl gasp and knew she must be standing in front of her, terrified of what she saw. A woman in a wheelchair, white eyes, a scar down one side of her face.
“What are you doing?” She asked.
“Watching the man on the other side of the lake about to drown.”
