Together under a blanket. One held the flashlight while the other held their favorite book and they read aloud to each other.
Every now and then giggles cascaded through the blanket and rested in the air. They could never seem to stop laughing long enough to finish the book but they didn’t care. It wasn’t about the story but the stolen time they get to spend together.
“Carla, honey, time for bed,” her mom says pulling the blanket away and tucking in her daughter. “Who were you talking to?”
“Your other daughter. The one you lost. She doesn’t like you.”
