Her bare feet on the ice never slipped with each step she took to reach the other side. She heard a crack and swore she saw a shadow move under the surface. She closed her eyes and counted to five. Letting the ice become one with her numb feet. It was a pain she was willing to bear.
Behind her a growl carried across the icy river. She didn’t dare look back. She knew what would happen if she did. Just a few more steps and her pain would dissipate. The crack went on ahead leaving only her shadow behind.
