The one-eyed jackal stood under the lamppost waiting for the next unsuspecting victim to cross its path. Wearing a black raincoat, collar pulled up around to conceal its face, it lit a cigarette and leaned a bit.
It wore human clothes and hated the way they felt against its hairy arms and legs and back. Hunched over, it took a drag from the cigarette and blew rings towards the light of the lamppost. Unawares of what was walking towards it.
“Borrow a match, mister?”
Before the jackal could fix its one good eye on the voice, the lamppost went out.

I think things are not so good for the Jackal. Awesome story, Erica.
