The chase started on corner of Grant and 5th before he rounded the corner onto a dead end alley. He could hear their footsteps and shouts as they called to each other.
“This way! It’s a dead end. We’ve got you now, Carl!”
He skidded to a stop and saw a ladder where he swore there wasn’t one before. He grabbed hold of the rung and started to climb. The higher he climbed, he realized there was no end. Looking up, all he saw was sky.
He stopped. Closed his eyes. Then opened them. Seeing himself falling to his death.
