At night I wait for my bonny lass, To show her face to me. I sit upon the hillside, Picking heather gingerly. Her eyes are black as midnight Her heart it seems so cold. I’ll love her all the day-time, Or until I grow real old!
“Ha ha ha!” I laugh, slapping my knee at how funny my song is. Made it up just now, I did. My bonny lass loves my singin’. Though she ain’t been lookin’ so healthy lately. Her eyes are sunken in and yellow. Her skin translucent. And she’ll only meet me after the sun sets.
