A knock on the door woke me from a sound sleep. In my line of work there’s nothing for me to do but sleep and wait for the knock. I put on my slippers and push myself off my rocking chair. My cane already in hand as I shuffle to the door. I’m not as young as I once was and everything takes longer. But I’ve always felt that greatness should take as long as it needs. I take as long as I need.

When I open the door I’m faced with a child selling cookies and my heart sinks.
