Anne and Suzy are best friends. Best friends since the sandbox. And now that they’re in school together it’s their first sleepover. They’ve had sleepovers before. Dozens of times. But they’re “big girls” now, with homework from a teacher.

“I found out a secret today. My mom said I can’t tell anyone. Not even you,” Suzy says to Anne.

Anne sits up angrily in bed. “No fair. I told you my secret yesterday, remember?”

“Your mom kissing someone who isn’t your dad isn’t a secret. I already knew that. My mom kidnapped a man and he’s living in our basement.”
