“Is it real, momma?” The little girl hid behind her mother and squeezed her hand in fright.
“No, child. That’s a library lion. They are protectors and very friendly. Now be a big girl,” her mother said.
They both walked up the stone steps. The little girl kept her eyes fixed on the lion and as they walked by she swore the lion’s eyes moved!
“Momma! Momma! It is alive.” But her mother wasn’t listening anymore. Instead, she walked towards the entrance, dragging her daughter behind her.
“If you don’t stop looking at that damn lion—“
The lion was gone.
