TRANSCRIPT

A thick fog crept silently across the dark and quiet streets, muffling the world. I couldn’t see more than a foot ahead, but I heard footsteps behind—slow, deliberate—matching mine.

I stopped. They didn’t.

My breath caught in the cold air, as if the fog itself wanted me to stay a while.

I heard a whisper; “Don’t look back.”

Against every instinct telling me to run, I turned instead. Shapes moved within the fog. Limbs bending the wrong way. The footsteps stopped. The fog parted, revealing a smile—wide, sharp, sinister. Then suddenly the thick fog swallowed me whole.
