âSheâs been asking for you. The doctor says she doesnât have much longerââ
âThen I shouldnât be standing here talking to you, should I?â Teddy pushed past his stepfather into the room where his mother was being nursed. What once was his childhood living room had been converted into a Death Room. He noticed the smell first. Like urine soaked linen that had been washed but would never lose the smell. âMom?â
Her nurse got up from a nearby chair so Teddy could sit, and she left. âTeddy? Is that you?â
She gripped his forearm and whispered, âthe grave awaits.â

I felt this one quite hard. I have two grandmothers who have/had Alzheimers. We lost my Greek garndmother 4 years ago. Taking care of elderly people in the current systems within society is so tough and so isolating. What's more it the illness carries a stigma and all the old friends often stop talking not only to old person but to their families which is further isolating. Thank you for sharing it really is wonderful to come upon a piece of writing which reminds you of some struggle you have.
