TRANSCRIPT

The villagers called it a curse, though Nerva knew better. Every Winter, the apple trees in her family’s orchard bloomed black when they shouldn’t bloom at all. Gleaming like onyx, hard and bitter, people came from miles around for a taste of “forbidden magic.”

When Nerva’s father died, the apple trees started to produce red apples. Deep and dark like blood. Villagers crossed themselves and generally tried to stay away. Till one day, Nerva decided to eat a red apple that everyone suddenly didn’t want to buy.

And what happened next has terrified villagers into never eating a red apple.
