When my phone rang I put it down and watched it vibrate on my desk. I got the attention of Detective Silvers who picked up his desk phone and directed the operator to put a trace on my phone.
I knew who was on the other end before I answered it. I just needed to keep them talking. Making them wait was a tactic I learned ages ago and was glad to use it now.
I slid the answer call button and waited a beat before saying, “This is—“
“I know who you are. Do you know who I am?”
