Normal ended the night the refrigerator started behaving strangely. Messages appeared on its smart screen that left me feeling uneasy. I unplugged it. But that didn’t seem to matter. Notes continued to appeared on the fridge door anyway: FEED ME WHAT YOU LOVE MOST.
My dog refused to enter the kitchen. Man’s best friend.
The sink filled with fingerprints that weren’t mine. While I slept, something rearranged the furniture to face the hallway, like an audience.
By dawn, a fridge door opened by itself. Inside was meat wrapped in paper. My name written on every package. Fresh ink. Still warm.
