It's a New Year and I'm Late Already!
Welcome to 2023! The Writer's Edition!
I can’t believe it’s a new year already. But what I can’t believe even more is how I managed to go the entire year of 2022 without having written one piece of fiction, short or otherwise. This is unlike me. I am a writer by nature and to not write means I must’ve been very busy last year. And so, I leave 2022 behind me, hoping that as a new year dawns I will have written something.
In the meantime, I have been reading. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to be exact. Reading a chapter means I’ll be finished the book in a little under 6 months? It’s a slow read but it’s all I can commit to these days, okay!
I’m reading this book (and subsequently all the others) with a purpose. I’m dusted off my reimagining of the tale that I wrote back in 2016 and my intention is to rewrite it to be a full length novel this time around. Probably of similar length to the original book, just under 50k words. More on that later…
I have reorganized my newsletter (again) much to my own detriment, I’m sure. And with that I want to return to sharing my thoughts on writing, however helpful and informative they might be to you. I hope they are. But I’ve just streamlined into 3 sections this time to make it, simpler?
Friday Fiction - Short stories that, should I find the time, will return as they always have and be turned into podcast episodes where you can listen to me read them to you.
On Writing Fiction - I am no Stephen King but I’ve learned a thing or two in my decades worth of writing, failing, finishing, growing, and more. When I can I’m going to share my insights.
The First Edition - This is my pride and joy. It’s my monthly email that I send on the 1st of every month. Recap on the previous month. But this year I’m going to only make it exclusive to my email list for two weeks and then on the 15th of every month it will open up for everyone to see.
Want to make sure you won’t miss an email from these sections, scroll to the bottom for an easy way to do it. I admit I had to figure it out myself as Substack has changed a lot since the last time I sent an email.
LAST MINUTE NOTE: Substack has had a new feature in beta for a while called “Pledges” and just yesterday (1/31/23) they opened this up so it’s accessible to all users and readers alike. I’ll explain more on the concept (as I see it) later, but for now I wanted to share this post written by one of the staff that explains it rather well, in case you should see this on my Substack and wonder what it means.
