Pokemon Day last year featured a 14 minute video. I expect a similar length this year.
Now, let’s examine all the highlights of that feature video:
Pokémon GO Update - March 1st
Pokémon Masters EX
Cafe Remix
Pokémon Unite
New Pokémon in BDSP
PLA software update (Day Break)
Special PLA gift offer code for the day
Online animated cartoon release
Reveal if Gen IX SV game
Okay, if we know anything about Nintendo it’s that they like uniformity. And based on what we know so far we can say with certainty the length of this direct will be at least 22 minutes. I’ve seen some complain about how short it will be say, compared to the Nintendo Direct which was over 30min. Let’s remember this Direct is just Pokémon news and it’s already going to be almost 10min longer than last year. What could that extra time feature, I wonder? Taking my notes from last year and their consistent blue print here is what we can probably expect:
Pokémon Go update - Hoenn and Kanto
I “play” Go, insofar as I open the app on my phone and 99.9% of the Pokemon I’ve caught have come from me sitting on my couch in my living room and catching whatever I see in my vicinity. So I’m not all that excited about this one but I know many people will be glad to see this first. And I believe these regions are already known as coming in March.
Nintendo Switch Online
Instead of Pokemon Masters EX and Cafe Remix I’m hoping we don’t get any updates on these. I mean, who among us really care? I know I never played them and likely never will. I’m MORE interested in how Pokemon will utilize what we just got news about with the early February Nintendo Direct. With the addition of Gameboy and GameBoy Advance I’m fully expecting The Pokemon Company to feature all of the Gen I - Gen III games: Red/Blue/Green/Yellow, Gold/Silver/Crystal, and Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/LeafGreen/FireRed. I know what you’re thinking, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll get 12 Pokemon games just given to us. And you might be right. But how many of use swore up and down we’d never see GameBoy or GBA before the “next gen” console? And here we are. I have a good feeling we will see some from Gen I, Gen II and Gen III. If we don’t I will be truly surprised.
New Pokémon update in Arceus? DLC
I’m way less confident in a PLA announcement than I am we’ll see GB/GBC/GBA games coming this year. But I put it here just in case. I still feel there is more to explore with PLA that we have yet to explore. If they were willing to put more content in BDSP, why not PLA one year later?
SV DLC
We know this is coming. There is an entire section of the map that is still being hidden and we can’t get to. The time is now to give us that DLC. And it will probably be available right after the presentation.
Home Compatibility update across NSO and SV
We won’t have access to this but we will be told the new way in which us trainers can get Pokemon from NSO Pokemon games to Home as well as how long the wait till be for SV to connect to Home as well. This is a given. Just don’t be surprised if this isn’t made possible until early 2024. Just be happy it’s coming and relax!
Code for free stuff in SV
There will be free something coming. What would be nice is if the free code was for Herba Mistica instead of things we can freely get. We know some code is coming. I just hope they make it worth it. Otherwise, prepare for the hate from everyone complaining about how silly the free thing is. Blah, blah, blah. Move on, people!
Is there room for a bit more unexpected news? If so, let me put some really far-fetched maybe’s below:
Sneak peak of the next animated series
I really wish I watched more of the animated series. There’s like, 30 seasons at this point? Could I catch up? Probably. But I have too much other things going on in my life to really dedicated that much time to doing it. Each season is 30 - 60 episodes and each episode is a full 30 minutes. There just isn’t enough time in a year to do it! Let alone a lifetime at this point! But I do love that they keep them going and now that Ash is out, seeing what’s coming wouldn’t be amiss.
Reveal of Gen X games
Last year we got a really cryptic look at the Scarlet & Violet games. Is it so far out to think we’ll see the Gen X games briefly? I don’t think so. The only way we might not see anything is if what I have next happens instead…
Remake of XY like BDSP or Let’s Go!
I know there were some non-Pokemon loving people who didn’t like the art style of BDSP. Personally, I love the art style much in the same way I love the art style of Zelda Links Awakening. Should they decide to recreate that art style for XY I won’t be mad. Why XY? It’s the only set that hasn’t had a remake or sequel of some kind. No other reason. Is it too much to expect a remake and Gen X news? Definitely. There ain’t no way we get remake, GB/GBA games, and Gen X in one year. I mean, that is way too much Pokemon and I’d have to quit my job just to fill the time needed to play it all.
National Dex of Gen V - VIII
This is a pipe-dream for sure, but it would be cool is SV opened up a National Dex that covered just Pokemon from Gen V - VIII. This way all we’d need is BDSP and SV in order to collect and transfer all 1k+ Pokemon to Home. Let me have this dream, damn it! Not withstanding those Pokemon that can only be obtained by special means. That’s a debate for another day on how to get those.

I’ll be back tomorrow with what I got right, what I got way wrong, and my overall thoughts after it’s all said and done.
