Hello Readers!
I have news! But before I get into my writing stuff I want to talk about my office! Like, the fact that I have one, and I'm officially moved into it! Or the fact that I spent all of June putting together 5 Ikea Billy Bookcases (after lugging the boxes up to the second floor) plus a pretty cool "display bookcase" that I have set up behind me when I'm sitting at my desk! Oh, and my desk... It's one of those fancy mechanical ones so I can stand and continue working. Sitting for long periods of time doesn't do my scoliosis any good so this is a welcome addition to my office. I've unpacked some of my books I haven't seen in nearly a year. I'm working on being more "minimalist" in my life and in my office. Check out some pics below of the build, the set-up, and the final result. Knowing I built all the furniture in here feels so good. And I must give 100% credit to my wife who laid the flooring and painted my walls. I helped, but she did the majority of the work cause she's awesome!
Out with my old L-Shaped desk (in the background) and in with my NEW Autonomous desk! Trying to be as minimalist as possible.
Now onto my writing. June was a month of trial and error. After spending 2.5 months on world-building and research it turns out I was not going in the right direction. I wrote 20,000 words and then stopped. Something wasn't working in the outline and I had to figure out what it was before I could continue. After several days of going over what I had written so far, it became evident to me that my main character was missing from the story! Something had to be done about it quickly because changing my main character just isn't an option for me. I've been really glued to this character since inception.
After several days of thinking it over and being up all night with ideas that might work, could work, or definitely would never work, I had a eureka moment. In short, I've changed the style of the story. I will be telling it from the POV of my main character as if he is recalling and remembering moments from his past which are directly parallel to what is happening in his present. Make sense? This means there will be chapters from the past POV and from the present POV. A bit tricky as I've never done that before. Finding the perfect balance of past and present without going back and forth will need to be handled right, otherwise, my idea will never work. Taking into account that I'm entering new territory here (oh, and did I mention the present chapters will be in 1st person while the chapters about the past will be in 3rd person?) I'm going to be drastically extending my previously proposed timeline for writing this story.
The Son of River Series is now officially renamed Born From Blood. Here is a teaser place card that I hope will make readers curious to learn more.
The way I see it, I rather have discovered this HUGE issue with my outline and story in the early stages than having written an entire novel, discovered the issue, and had to go back and fix it! That would've been a nightmare.
