Dear Readers (and Listeners),
Many moons ago I was born on the 27th of June. Some might say with a pen in one hand, paper in the other, and a full imagination ready to tell stories.
These past couple months I’ve spent my time reading aloud my stories for you and creating a Substack podcast with them. There are 14 stories in all to release plus one BONUS story that is for subscribers only (coming soon). This should all be completed and available for you to listen to by the end of July.
I won’t go into too much detail about it now, but August 5th begins my return to writing Friday Fiction short stories instead of just reading them aloud. I hope to bring you 16 brand new short stories that will take you all the way into the holiday season (November to be precise). Every. Single. Friday.
And I hope not to miss any Friday’s though the way my life has totally changed in June, it is likely that I will miss one or two. I can’t say anything about this life changing time in my life just yet but soon…
Lastly, I have finally picked a contest to enter in 2022. Ever since I entered the LeVar Burton Reads contest last October I decided to enter at least ONE contest every year. And as I’m flipping through the latest Writer’s Digest issue I happen upon an ad for one their contests and I figure, why not? The early-bird deadline is November 15th and the regular deadline is December 15th. That is just enough time for me to write something. I will be entering their Short Short Story Competition which involves writing a 1500 words (or less) story. And like last years contest entry, my story will be available to subscribers via a podcast episode for free when I release my Season II podcast episodes. As long as my rejection from placing in their contest comes first. So, mid to late 2023.
WORTH THE WATCH
Have you heard of this contest? I was tempted to submit a story several years ago until I did my own research into who runs it, how, and why. It’s a great lesson to never enter a contest simply based on its popularity or the judges on its panel. It’s always a good to do your own digging before you make that all important (and well informed) decision.
THE GREAT SUBSTACK STORY CHALLENGE
Did you know there are 13 fiction writers from Substack collaborating on a story. Each week a new chapter is added and the new writer has but 7-days to craft the next one! It started on May 26th, but here is a convenient link to all the writers as well as each chapter as they release! Follow them all, if you can.
