Dear Reader,
Being a mom is hard work. I won’t say much more than that. If my past commitments haven’t lived up to my present delivery, this is why…
However, it doesn’t mean I haven’t been writing. It’s just that my writing has taken on different forms. And shouldn’t any writing count? Twitter Threads? They aren’t easy to write. I think about my brother who used to take several hours to write one tweet back when all we had was 144 characters to work with.
My Tweet Thread game has been going strong. I consider writing 7 threads in a row(ish) to be winning. I hope to keep it up as I do love the exercise and what I’m learning along the way from fellow threaders.
All this to say, I’ve expanded my Substack to include more than just fiction. I went back and forth on this decision with myself for the better part of the year. Should I mix fiction short stories (and future serials) with my non-fiction writing (atomic essays, and such)? Then I realized, that if I want to work in public it’s a good idea to have all my work in one place. It frees me up to just write and not waste time trying to remember where each thing goes.
So, welcome to The Digital Writer (& Content Creator) on Substack*:
I will always have a fondness for fiction, especially short fiction and my Friday Fiction 2.0 podcast, may it never die. But there’s much more to me than my storytelling.
*You’ll notice The First Edition isn’t listed. That’s because, as always, this email is exclusive to you and can only be referenced online via this Archive Page that is password protected. Find the password in the Footer of this email.
🗓️ Sunday Snippets - Every Sunday I’ll share one thing new I’ve discovered, learned, watched, listened to, etc throughout the week. I guarantee you’ll always find something worth digging deeper into or useful. This section will transition into something I email every single week. If you want to receive these emails (or if you rather not), be sure to check your subscription settings. This will start Sunday, January 1, 2023.
🧵 Threads - Do you hate using Twitter? It can get pretty toxic and can just be a pain to navigate. Hey, I get it. That was me these last 5+ years. I wanted as little to do with Twitter as possible and only used it for promotion purposes. Recently, I’ve done a complete change to how I interact with the platform and I’m finding it one of my favorite places to be. But I don’t expect you to change your mind about Twitter just for me. That’s why I’m taking my threads and putting them on Substack so you won’t miss what I’m sharing but you never have to visit Twitter to do it! I’m attempting to write a thread a day but don’t worry, I’ll be sure to include links to my favorite threads for you to check out and if you like any of them or find them helpful, be sure to let me know in the comments section.
🖋️ Atomic Essays - There is a whole blog post about what this is from the ship30for30 crew but the gist of it is to write 250 words every single day for 30 days in a row. 30 days won’t a habit make, but it’s a damn good start. And it can be 250 words about anything. Instead of sharing what I intend my content to be, I’m just gonna do it and the next time you hear from me I hope that section will be filled with at least 30 days worth of writing.
🎙️BraveBird Plays - I love gaming. Lately, I haven’t had the time to play but when it comes to the classics from Nintendo like Pokemon, Zelda, and Mario, I make the time. Every now and then I have something to say on the topic of gaming and Nintendo specifically. Whenever that happens you’ll find those scribblings here.
That about sums up where I am with my Substack. The idea is as we move into the new year I’ll be sharing just about every single thing I write in public. I have plans for why but more on that later.
Oh, and I’m also dabbling in learning Notion. I’ll be making some templates to share with you guys exclusively through my gumroad shop soon. Notion can be very helpful to be more productive, organized, and intentional but it can also be very overwhelming for people. It is what you make it to be but the key is you have to build it. If you don’t want to be bothered but want in on what seems to be the talk of the town, not to worry, templates for home life, work life, creative life, writing life, personal life, and more are coming and in a new and different way than the way others are doing it!
