Assuming I found this thread the same as everyone else here (There is something really off with a perfectly disproportioned medieval knight walking a giant goldfish down fantasy lane). At first I just immediatly looked away because my gut (as a master kinesiologist I understand, train and cherish my enteric nervous system) told me to look away. But why? why did my gut tell me to look away? Hmm? It's a twisted assault on the subconscious which manifests into the conscience of people differently. I also feel queasy and after watching a few minutes of the Netflix computer generated movie Havoc:
I started to feel what I can only explain as vertigo. It's really bad, unwatchable. My guess is anyone on this thread will feel strange after only a few minuets of watching this movie. AI generated images affect humans the same way, it's just a bit more subtle.
So what to do? Some time ago I imagined a new internet, let's call it old school or organic but for sure non AI. I'm sure there is someone who can build a sub internet with no AI at all. I know I'm supposed to embrace AI but sorry I'm not. I would rather just take a nice walk and ground barefoot in the park, relishing the astounding beauty of real nature while parsing out previously viewed unatural synthetic AI produced material.
You're not alone. I just googled "AI makes me feel sick to my stomach" and this piece came up. I've been feeling this way for a long time now but really thought I was just an oddball with a sensitive stomach... every friend I've mentioned it to looks at me like I'm crazy. Usually they can't even tell an image is AI and when I tell them I can by the way my stomach feels, they're like -- impossible. I don't know that it happens 100% of the time -- AI is getting so "good" at realism -- but more times than not a rendered human or landscape just makes me so ill.
- I can't without slowly feeling ill in my stomach, and mentally vaguely annoyed, possibly because I can't quite define in my mind why the visual is mildly disturbing me. dunno.
Nah, you're not the only one: I don't get the physical reaction but in any case I don't like them: eternal youth, not particularly well chosen colours, hands and faces absolutely wrongly painted when there are more than 3 people in the image, swords not in the hands but in the arms, etc.
It's called the, "uncanny valley." Our mind instinctively knows something is off, at present Generative AI struggles with hands. Artists are fighting back, using Glaze or Nightshade software to protect their work. It digitally poisons generative AI if it scrapes the graphic from the net, however gen AI is corrupting itself as it scrapes posted gen AI to train on.😉
As someone with misophonia, I know what it means to feel alone with a reaction like this, to tell yourself that it's unreasonable or an overreaction. Truth is, AI makes me feel sick too. It starts with my eyes struggling to process what I'm looking at, then my throat, then my stomach just begs me to look away. It's just like you described
I don't get a physical reaction (which is strange, considering how sensitive I am to all sorts of other things), but there's definitely something... uncanny about those images.
I recently watched a video where (real) artists were presented with AI-generated and human-created images and they had to guess which was which. They usually got it right when the art depicted something specific and/or realistic, but it was kind of a crapshoot when it came to more impressionistic stuff.
I don't think you necessarily need to condition yourself to get used to gen-AI garbage. More people are starting to notice and call it out. And it hasn't improved nearly as fast as some advocates claimed it would; it's still pretty easy to spot because it's so bad.
I have the same problem. I have a feeling of illness and doom and disgust. I especially can't take movie covers on netflix. AI has taken over fashion images. They make me ill, there's a creepy out of purportion kind of thing. AI B roll on youtube and videos also. I thought it was just me. It's a real feeling very nasty feeling and unsettling. The images look demonic to me (and I'm not religious). It's not evern horror images, just everyday fashion images or shopping images. To the point where I wonder if the computer has put subliminal imagery that we can't detect but that it's using to try to manipulate mankind. People also talk about having a weird smell after viewing them or odd taste. I found this post because I was looking up these things.
I feel the same. People thinks I'm crazy or exaggerating. In my case, unlike you, I have no intention of adapting to it. I will just avoid it forever. I always avert my gaze or close my eyes upon seeing these abominations.
Also, when I have forced myself to look at them, I have realized they hurt not only my eyes, but my mind, somehow. Like I'm about to see or think or feel something unthinkable that will make me go crazy.
I do too! the more I look at it the more i see how fake it looks and it makes me want to puke. Doesn't matter if its an AI cloud, or a person it makes me queasy.

Same here. Even AI generated designs that don’t feature humans make me feel ill. Physically nauseous. A visceral reaction. They feel… oily?
Yes AI MAKES ME WANT TO ALMOST THROW UP ...like the sick you get from motion sickness ... I can't describe it but it's a deep pit sick on the stomach
I do yes. (came here after googling ittoo!)
Particularly with generated video, but static images too. I feel like there will be PhD papers on this phenomena soon.
eg. try to watch this Royksopp music video,

Same😭

I looked up AI makes me feel sick because I was curious, happy to know I am not alone.

I don't get queasiness but as an artist I do get a burning rage that I like to keep in check lest I go on a rant.
