I write non-fiction mostly but with bits of creative writing pieces mixed in as well. Your advice in regards to making your Substack page better and more accessible, I found to be extremely helpful. Thanks Erica! 😊
I meant genre such as epic fantasy or romance or sci-fi. I guess what I meant was there are novelists on here -- I'm assuming -- who aren't serializing their novels but rather are selling them via traditional or self-publishing and are using Substack to post content about their novels and the craft of writing, etc., as opposed to publishing their novels on Substack via the serial process. I'm not complaining here. I think what you've done is awesome. I was just curious.
Seriously? That would be awesome! My substack is still pretty new, so I haven't figured all the fine-tuning yet. I've tidied a few things already since reading this post, and I'd be grateful for any further guidance you can provide!
I noticed that the list is dominated by short stories, flash fiction, micro fiction, and poetry. I don't see much genre fiction or novelists. Is this pretty much true of Substack as a whole, do you think?
All Serials are “novelists” in the sense that they are releasing a novel chapters at a time. As for genre fiction, not sure what you mean? Unfortunately, I can only fill on the information that I can see within each Substack which is partially why I wrote this. I was hoping people on the list would read this and want me to update their entry with as much accurate information as possible.
The lower I see my open rate drop the more I’m beginning to agree with Simon Owens stance that if someone hasn’t been active for three months he removes them from his list.
Now that you have the comprehensive fiction directory you should sell it to Substack and relax with your millions.
Also, my wife tells me I take too long to get to the point too.
It's great that you've made a list of as many fiction writers as you could! As you said, it's never going to be completely finished, but how did you find so many?
You guys, honestly! I put the word out on Notes and got a lot of responses for who to add. I also now have a Google Form I created that is being used with new people letting me know they exist. When I started I also just went to the Substack Explore tab and searched "fiction" or words similar. Which is why I said it's so important to use Keywords and fill in a proper description. If you don't then you can't be found as easily.
I had to fill this out again because I don't think I did it properly the first time. I don't remember. If I screwed up, just delete me.
What an amazing resource! Thank you for sharing this, as well as your insights.
Of course! It's in "the list" when you pivot down the FOR WRITERS area. But I can link it here: https://forms.gle/5XHZNmiGouLY61Hu9

More incentive for me to get to the place I want to be to start actually publishing my fiction on my 'stack...
Whatever I can do to lend a hand, just let me know!
Erica, you're killing it lately on here!
There are a bunch of really good ideas in here, thank you! Excuse me while I get my dustpan and broom...
If you need help let me know! I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty!

Thank you for this!
