The process for writing a work of fiction is different for everyone. My process won’t be the same as yours. But that doesn’t mean lessons or little tips and tricks here and there can’t be learned by observing a fellow writer in their natural habitat.
And let’s face it, writing for many of us is a very solitary thing. We boot up our computers and open up whatever program we like to use to write our prolific work. We might be in a room by ourselves, sitting on the toilet, driving into work, standing on a crowded bus, or wearing noise-canceling headphones in a cafe somewhere. However we choose to write it typically isn’t with someone reading over our shoulder. At least, not intentionally.
Writing in this way is actually very intentional. I want you to see the mess and the madness. Because, as we all know, somewhere hidden beneath it all is where we find that thing we spend hours upon hours searching for; the story.
